چکیده

Staffing constraints and cross-training of laboratory staff have made it imperative that we choose laboratory instruments that not only are user friendly and easy to use but also improve the efficiency of our current systems. Therefore, evaluations of any instrument should also incorporate a component that examines whether workflow can be improved by the use of the instrument being evaluated. In April and May 2001, MDS Laboratories in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, evaluated the Coulter AcT 5diff Cap Pierce (CP) hematology analyzer (Beckman Coulter, Miami, FL) using the laboratory’s current Coulter AcT diff as the comparator instrument. The evaluation protocol was created after literature was reviewed, and the leukocyte flagging efficiency was based in part on the National Committee of Clinical Laboratory Standards document, Reference Leukocyte Differential Counts and Evaluation of Instrumental Methods: Approved Standard (Villanova, PA: National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards; 1992. Document H20-A; vol 12, no. 1). Our study showed that the AcT 5diff CP analyzer was very user friendly and that its analytical performance compared well with that of the AcT diff instrument. Design improvements of the AcT 5diff CP analyzer that could improve the efficiency or workflow of the laboratory included bidirectional interface capabilities and expanded quality-control files. The clinical sensitivity of the instrument in relation to the population evaluated was also very good. In all, the study results indicated that the AcT 5diff CP analyzer could improve the overall productivity in most laboratories processing low volumes of hematology samples. Lab. Performance characteristics of the Sysmex XT-2000i hematology analyzer.

The XT-2000i is a new hematology analyzer combining aperture impedance and optical technologies. It is capable of generating a 30-parameter hematologic assay on peripheral blood at a throughput of 80 samples per hour. We have evaluated the performance characteristics of the XT-2000i analyzer and compared them with those of the state-of-the-art XE-2100 analyzer and the manual differential count....

An Evaluation of Rock Integrity and Fault Reactivation in the Cap Rock and Reservoir Rock Due to Pressure Variations

Cap rocks are dams which can prevent the upward movement of hydrocarbons. They have disparities and weaknesses including discontinuities, crushed areas, and faults. Gas injection is an effective mechanism for oil recovery and pore pressure. With increasing pore pressure, normal stress is reduced, and the integrity of impermeable boundaries (cap rock, fault, etc.) becomes instable. A successful ...

Evaluation of mouse red blood cell and platelet counting with an automated hematology analyzer

An evaluation of mouse red blood cell (RBC) and platelet (PLT) counting with an automated hematology analyzer was performed with three strains of mice, C57BL/6 (B6), BALB/c (BALB) and DBA/2 (D2). There were no significant differences in RBC and PLT counts between manual and automated optical methods in any of the samples, except for D2 mice. For D2, RBC counts obtained using the manual method w...

Evaluation of the pocH-100iV DIFF hematology analyzer for use in horses and cattle Evaluatie van de pocH-100iV DIFF-hematologie analyzer voor paarden- en runderbloed

The results of the analysis of equine and bovine blood samples with the automated pocH-100iV DIFF hematology analyzer were compared with the results obtained with reference methods or other analyzers (Vet ABC, Coulter Counter ZF, Coulter LH 750 analyzer). For equine blood and most parameters in bovine blood good to excellent correlations between methods and analyzers were obtained. For bovine b...

(r,t)-injectivity in the category $S$-Act

In this paper, we show that injectivity with respect to the class $mathcal{D}$  of dense monomorphisms of an idempotent and weakly hereditary closure operator of an arbitrary category  well-behaves. Indeed, if $mathcal{M}$ is a subclass of monomorphisms, $mathcal{M}cap mathcal{D}$-injectivity  well-behaves. We also introduce the notion of $(r,t)$-injectivity in the category {bf S-Act}, where $r...
